by students for students

Meet the Student Officers of the Union: From left to right:

Priya, Avina, Sam & Joel.

President: Priya Pallan

Welcome Freshers 2010,
I hope you are all excited and looking forward to joining us here at Brunel in September.
As UBS President I am the nominal head of the Union, I oversee its democracy and am involved in all the aspects that the Union brings you. We are here to help you enjoy your time at University, as well as making sure you are well represented in your needs during your studies at Brunel.
Myself and all the Student Officers will be around during Fresher’s week, (and the rest of the year!) please do come over and say hi if you see us, we are all looking forward to meeting you!
If there’s one piece of advice I can give you, its GET INVOLVED! University life only happens once, so make the most of every opportunity that comes your way!
See you all very soon.

VP Student Activities: Joel Brasher-Jones (Greenwood)

Hello to my fellow Brunelians.
My name is Joel Brasher-Jones and I am going to be you Vice President of student activities for the coming year. I come in with a years worth of experience as I was the same post last year, so hopefully I know the ropes by now! If you are joining a club and/or a society then that is great news! If you experience any problems with that club/society then you can come talk to me or talk to the student activities department. We want as many students to get involved here at Brunel, but we also want everyone to have the best experience that they can possibly have.
For those who are running a club or society I am here to help you with your constitution (the document which defines your club) so all you have to do is arrange a time to see me and we can make sure that everything is up to scratch. If you are looking to start a new club/society then I am also your first contact and we can work together to make sure it gets off the ground.
I also take care of RAG so if you want to get involved with charity work, then please come and see me or the RAG officer.
I am based in the Students Union, so come in for a chat sometime
Have a great time this year, and I’ll see you soon.

VP Academic Representation: Sam Middlewood

Fresher’s, welcome to Brunel!
In my position as VP Academic Rep, I ensure that all Brunel Students are represented to the University throughout their academic progression. Really that means that I can offer advice, guidance and representation to you as a student, should you require it with anything relevant to your academic studies at the University.
At the start of my 4 years as an Engineering student here at Brunel, I was in the same place you are now, and since then I’ve been through everything that you are likely to experience here at Brunel, and possibly more. So if you do see me around campus during Fresher’s week, which hopefully you will, don’t be afraid to stop me and ask any questions. Student Officers and Contacts are here for you this week, but your four Student Officers are also here for the whole of your academic year.
Enjoy your first few weeks here, and I look forward to seeing you around campus!

VP Community Welfare: Avina Patel

Welcome Freshers and returning students! Over the last four years before elected as Vice President, I graduated in Business Studies and Sport Sciences, and like you have experienced moving away from home into halls, making new friends, dealing with finances and of course dealing with time management so please don’t hesitate to come and see us for advice!

Elected as Vice President Community Welfare, I aim to inspire you the students through branching out and engaging you in non- academic issues making full use of some exciting campaigns throughout the year, as well as working enhancing the profile of Brunel Students both internally and within the community through volunteering and accreditation as well as facilitating coordination and development of the ARC.

We will all be heavily involved during Fresher’s week working alongside the contacts providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and will be around the year so please go down to the Hamilton centre where all your officers can easily be located!

Look forward to seeing you all soon!
